Alexandra Brewer ~ Never Die Easy

Author: Walter Payton with Don Yaegar
Pages Read: All
Rating: 9 (10 being the best!)
An inspirational autobiography about former Chicago Bears player, Walter Payton. This book is not just about a football player though, it is about a man who keeps his childhood beliefs throughout his whole life. Everyone that knew Walter had the same outlook on him. He never changed for anyone, not while he was in the NFL, contributing or creating volunteer organizations, or laying on his death bed. He was always the same person with the same qualities, you either liked him or you didn't. Never Die Easy does not just tell a story, it teaches life lessons and helped me to understand the I live my life but my life contains other people and all you can do is work as a team.
I was reminded of my Junior High basketball team while reading parts of this book. The reason for this is because in eighth grade our "A" basketball team went undefeated and it was not because we had a lot of great players. It was because we used everyone's capabilities to the best of their ability. The good players would involve the not so good ones. It made everyone happy. Happiness led to effort. Effort led to improvement. Improvement led to winning games. A chain reaction! I never really thought of it as important how we went undefeated but just that we did. Reading Never Die Easy made me realize that not only is it important where you go but how you get there.
Never Die Easy is kind of like Tuesdays with Morrie in the ways that it has so many lessons imbedded within the story and the book. The lesson or lessons above are the ones that spoke most to me but like any story everyone has a different outlook. Never Die Easy is the kind of book, in my opinion that will speak to everybody. It was amazing how so many of his philosophies pertained to me.

  1. Great Job Alexandra! I LOVED how you related Tuesdays with Morrie to this book! It really showed how in depth you got into it, and that it must have spoken to you alot. Also, about your A Team Basketball Team, that was a rewally good connection and that was very inspirational. Awesome:)

  2. That sounds like a very interesting Alexandra! I still remember when your team won every game, and we.... well, we weren't as good. At first I was a little envious, but I soon noticed that you guys earned every game you won. This book seems inspirational and I would enjoy reading it. Great job on your passage!

  4. Why thank you very much Princess Leyla, Inspirational is what I was going for I guess. Landon, I am very glad that you are not envious anymore :p Your team worked very hard though and that is what should count the most. I think soon in the future your basketball team will go very far. Chad, I am glad your are able to face something that your are not #1 at and are able to embrace it and try your hardest becausealthough people look at who is the best on a team they (or at least I do) REMEMBER the ones that tried their hardest and gave it their all when they were on the floor, field etc.

  5. I love your connections to your basketball season. You did a great job expressing your feelings about this book. To me this reminds me of the movie we all had to watch, Rudy. I made the connection because of the line where you said "it is about a man who keeps his childhood beliefs throughout his whole life." That is what Rudy did and he made it big after a lot of hard work. The connection to Tuesdays with Morrie is spot on. Even before I had finished reading your post and got to the part where you mentioned that book, I had made the connection too. I feel like this is a time where many people need a little insperation and I feel that people can get it from reading this book. I hope to read it in the near future. Great job, Alexandra!

  6. Alexandra, this was amazing in so many ways. I agree with Maddie, I love how you incorporated your personal connections with your own basketball team and season to the book. It really shows your understanding of success in sports not only being from skilled players, but from positive attitudes and good strategy. The title "Never Die Easy" also caught my attention. I agree with the message just the title alone portrayed. You are given just one life to live so you should make the absolute most of it and never lose hold of this gift. I'm not sure I would be interested in this book simply because athlete autobiographies are not my style, but like I said, great post, I loved it!
