This book I read Response was about a boy who lived in the hood and it talks about how he was going to jack a car in East Franklin. A bunch of white people jumped him and split his head open with a baseball bat.
I just thought it was a really good book. I never wanted to put the book down when I was reading. Through this book, I learned a lot of things: don’t steal cars, don’t do drugs because it leads you down the wrong path in life. I wouldn’t want that to happen to me both of my brothers went down the path and both ended up in jail. I don’t want to end up like them. I’m not going to drop out of high school like they did. I understand why they turned to those things, maybe because of our dad dying. But I don’t want that to be an excuse for me. I want to graduate high school, join the military, and not end up like them. I just want to make my mom proud.
John,
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to make my mom proud. I'm sure you will. Stay focused on what really matters and work hard to achieve your goals. I can't wait to see you and your mom at graduation.

John, I am really inspired by your post. I admire you for wanting to rise above the many things that could have brought you down. All aroung me, I witness those who have given up on school and instead turn to drugs as an easy escape. I think you are strong for wanting a better life for yourself and seeing that challenging yourself is the only way to get there. Also, I appreciate that you are sharing your story with others instead of falling victim to that annoying stereotype of the "emotionless man" who won't share any feelings or touch upon emotional subjects. Overall, the whole post was very refreshing. Well done.
ReplyDeleteJohn, you are headed in the right direction. As long as you keep that positive mindset, I believe you will go far. I personally have never seen anybody making bad choices like drugs, alchohol, and steeling, but you have. I have never met somebody from a hood, but I will think of this post if there is ever any pressure to do something like that. I know what I want to accomplish in life, and I know that those decisions would only hurt me. I am glad you are not going to use those excuses. Keep it up :) You will make your mom proud!
