Willie True- The Kite Runner

If I were Amir, I would not have just left my friend in the alley way only to be raped. If I were Amir, I would have sprinted into that alley way and fought for my best friend. I would have at least tried to be friends with him afterwards, because Hassan was the victim, but yet he’s being punished by Amir by not being recognized as a friend any longer. I cannot stand Amir.
I would like to know why Amir wants so badly to get rid of Hassan and Ali, I mean Amir is being so self-centered at this point in the book. He actually tried to frame Hassan and Ali for steeling his new watch and birthday money. What did Hassan do to him, besides be a great friend, and be a loyal servant as well? I don’t see how somebody could make their own friends feel so unsafe that they would actually want to move out than be with the people they loved. I’m stunned that Amir would rather consider himself, than put his friends, who are practically family, out on the streets, just so that he doesn’t have to hold the guilt. I f I knew him in real life, I would probably not be friends with him.

  1. Willie, by the end of The Kite Runner you will like Amir. This is one of my favorite books, and I too, hated Amir. At the end I had much more respect for him. Just keep reading, you will like Amir.

  2. From reading the post you wrote, you put a lot of thought into how you felt about Amir. Also, it seems like this book has a lot of action in it, which is good. I'm going to put this one on my to read list.

  5. It was a really good book. I agree with what Willie said, you shouldn't leave your friend defenseless where he couldn't get away. Like Mitch, I did not like Amir in the beginning, but by the end I liked him. It was sad, but I would read it again.

  6. I read this book a few years ago. I picked it up randomly in the bookstore because I knew very little about Afghanistan and Islam and I wanted to learn more. As I read, I felt the same anger and hatred you are also feeling. As you read further you get exposed to details that make you understand not only the personalties of the characters but also the circumstances of life in Afghanistan. This book made me appreciate the freedom that we have living in the United States. I was eager to read the second book by this author, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and I hated (and loved) that book even more than The Kite Runner.

  7. Willie, your response to the book shows deep emotion. The first paragraph in your blog shows how much of a friend you are and that you care for the people around you. I have heard great things about this book from everyone and I am really looking forward to hear the rest of the story from you. I thinkI might have to read the book myself!

  8. I have heard much of this book, but never really got around to reading. Due to your intensely emotional response, you have encouraged me to see what I might think of this book myself. If you recommend it, and while you might not now, if you do, please tell me. This will just add one more book to my to read list.
    Happy reading!!!

  10. Willie, I can obviously tell by your response that you really disliked this person. I also heard that you wrote you wanted to "beat him up", nice. :D After reading Mitche's comment and it being a week later, I was wondering if your feelings toward this character had changed? I hanvn't read this book but your thoughts on the character defidently have me curious as to what he is like. Nice job!
