For One More Day
Mitch Albom
Realistic Fiction
194 pages

For One More Day was a powerful and emotional journey through the life of Chick Benneto. He was a man who had turned to alcohol to make him happy, and ruined his life in the process. In fact he drove himself to committ suicide. He jumped off a tower, had a 99% chance of death, yet he didnt die. Not without a few bumps of course, but it was worth it for him. He hit his head hard and while he was unconsiouse he recieved "one last chance", one last day to spend with his mother. He was confused and believed he was dead, but he decided to take advantage of this opportunity. Chick had made a lot of mistakes in his life, and this was his chance to change things. He learned lessons from his mom in a 24 hour period that she had tried to teach him for 18 years. He finally realized the real values in life, and how he had given everything up for nothing. All he wanted to do was go back, he wanted the chance to be there when his mother died, instead of be at a "conference". You see he had lied to his family, in order to please his dad. Chick's dad wanted him to play in a major league baseball game, but it was his mothers birthday. As he was always trying to please his dad, he lied to his family and not only missed his mother's birthday but also her death. He never got to say goodbye. Imagine having to live with that your whole life!

This book was amazing and I would reccommend it to everyone, especially if you are not feeling thankful for your family or friends. It reminds me of a quote that many people have told me, "it's not the mistake that shows your character, it's how you handle the mistake". Chick made mistakes but he got a second chance, which not everyone gets, to turn his life around and he took advantage of it!

  2. The lessons he learned on his last day are lessons that we as human beings should learn. It is very sad how he learned them on his last day with his mother and people our age have no clue. Why do you think that is?

  3. I emjoyed reading ur post Miki!, and I am looking forward to reading this book. Alexandra I belive that us as teenagers don't know many of these lessons yet because we still haven't gone through situations, if that makes any sense. what I mean by this is that when we make mistakes we learn these lessons. However this isn't true all of the time. Miki I was woundering what you would do it you had one more chance, or even one more day?

  4. Miki, I loved your post because you were able to sum it up without giving away all of the detals. It made me want to read it to hear the whole story. I can not even imagine being pulled away from everyone you loved because your father told you too. Great job!
